I have collected a few random pieces on our star guest. This is what Master K has to say in his book, Beauty of Kinbaku:
“For those not familiar with the name Naka Akira, Naka sensei is considered one of the most accomplished of the younger professional bakushi (rope artists) currently working in Japan. Similar in stature to Mai Randa and Marai Masato, Naka Akira is also considered the only true deshi (disciple) of the great Nureki Chimuo. A master of traditional kinbaku techniques, he has worked for Art Video, Cinemagic and other well known video, film and book producers for many years. His exquisite DVD series “Nawaetsu” (“Rope Joy”) is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful and intense series of kinbaku art studies to be produced in recent times.
As famous as his kinbaku is Naka sensei’s full body tattoo, created by the master tattoo artist Horitoku. This beautiful piece of body art has made Naka Akira one of the most recognizable and famous bakushi in Japan today.”
Here are two from Maxime of Sang Bleu:
I’m in a good mood so I thought I’d start with a high-level wordplay. Anyway, browsing some Kinbaku-related discussions on Fetlife.com, I found the work of Naka Akira. I downloaded a couple of videos and to be honest, it is one of the most beautiful bondage I’ve seen. Far from the boring photo—graphic occidental approach, Naka Akira is always very close to looking messy which gives an uncanny realism to the scene, in spite of the obvious staging. And for some reason, a japanese bondage masters, although geeky remain credible while an occidental one usually looks like he should just go back to eating pizza and playing World of Warcraft.

Naka Akira’s tattoos
Mr Naka Akira, (the kinbakushi already presented here and mentioned by Riccardo Wildtiesin his interview) happens to be tattooed in a traditional Japanese style. I was not able to find any information on this point. Hopefully I will get to interview him one day on the question…

I just found this on YouTube:
Saki Kamijoo is a shibari artist and S&M performer from Kobe, Japan, where she runs the Vampire Squid bar. Known for her lightning fast style, emphasising flow and body movement as well as restraint. She is also the lead singer and guitarist of a band “Kalra” and loves to merge her love of rock and bondage in her shows that she performs in clubs and music venues all over Japan. She has also performed in Asia and recently in the US. Not only will she be performing at the Festival but she will also be offering a 2-day course and private tuition. Book here.
This Russian couple really caught our attention: Vlada, a female rigger, with the implausibly flexible male model, Falco. Nina nicknamed him ‘Superman’ as he not only tied himself in knots but also appeared to be entirely indest
It’s unlikely you’ll find a single person who wasn’t amazed by their performances and no wonder. They do not go on stage until a number is thoroughly prepared and rehearsed. As a result, we see little masterpieces.
other performances. Vlada emphasizes that she deliberately studied under no one thus creating her own style.
Vlada says: “Among the whole variety of the bondage, I perceive only ropes and only on the verge of the feasible. The bondage for me is a kind of rope torture.I’m more interested in the process than in the result. The goal of my play is not a tied body but the very process of tying which is as endless and exotic as a growing bonsai. The human being is a reflection of the complexity, flexibility, changeability and at the same time incompressibility of the world… You cannot break what is flexible, and here it is: the symbol of the constant search for counteraction, the unity and struggle of opposites… The world is also flexible but you cannot tie it as you like, even though you want this so much… Also, I love the smell of power. I enjoy shocking people and searching for the limits of the feasible. It’s not about the creativity, the impulse of performance, or self-expression. It’s just one more side of life, a spark in fireworks. But fireworks are a lot of lights, bright and changeable. And tomorrow I will change and so will my actions…I share myself with the world. I let its versatility and provocative seductiveness through me. And I’m so glad that there is a person who helps me share my world in the way I want!”
They found each other two years ago and never parted. Since then, they have been gladdening the world with their art. They have already conquered London and Berlin. They have done bondage sessions all over Europe and made fantastic shoots, sometimes on the verge of breaking the rules. They will be bringing their controversial, uncomfortable and culturally relevant KGB show to the Festival.
This couple hardly needs any introduction as they are regulars at LFAJRB and BOUND but have performed as far afield as Moscow and have a huge following. They have also become involved in the organisation of the festival this year and we are sure the event will benefit from their input.
“Wykd_Dave is a UK-based rope enthusiast, who now teaches and performs internationally accompanied by his partner Clover.
He started exploring bondage 22 years ago and was autodidact for the first 17 years, until a lesson with rope professional Osada Steve changed his way of tying. Dave loves Japanese stile rope work, and decided to dedicate himself to this. “It isn’t about the rope, it’s about the expression, the look in the eyes, the hopelessness, the agony“.
Now, Dave feels fortunate to be asked to run workshops and tutorials all around the world. He takes great pleasure in seeing people get it and open their minds to what rope bondage can be. “Not just a means of restraint, but a much deeper and personally connected experience than any other I’ve ever found“.
Most of the time, running into Dave means running into his lovely partner Clover. She is very passionate about rope, she models and performs, as well as make impressive photos of Japanese rope work done by Dave. He photography focusses on the feeling involved in rope play, not just the pretty ties, and she tells stories with her pictures.
Dave: “Of course Clover’s a huge part of everything. Without her photography, would people ever have noticed?”

Nawakiri Shin from Taiwan, started learning shibari in 2004, under nawashi Kanna. He is a founding member of BDSM.TW, the only BDSM supporting group in Taiwan, and performed in various events, both local and international, including Toubaku 2011 in Tokyo, the Taipei Fringe Festival in 2011 and 2012 and, of course LFAJRB and BOUND. Nancy Wang joined BDSM.TW in 2009. Majoring in drama, she helped transforming BDSM.TW into a theatre troupe, and adding dramatic elements into BDSM, shows. She directed as well as performer in most of the recent BDSM.TW performances.
Nina’s attraction to bondage started 10 years ago, when she discovered the BDSM community. Until 2 years ago, her exposure to shibari was limited to pictures, videos and discussion. Then, thanks to Stefano Laforgia, rope artist and BDSM educator, who led the first Italian bondage school, Itoh Seiyu; she had the good fortune to become a shibari model and I fell in love with it.
In 2011, at LegArti, a PR exercise in Rome to present shibari, she modelled for Esinem. After the performance, a beautiful friendship was born and convinced by her passion and ability for rope, he her as his student and model.
Since then I have attended classes with Ranki Kazami and Hajime Kinoko, two highly respected Japanese nawashi. Of course, being Esinem’s model and student, I attend all his lessons and assist with many of them.
Nina’s passion for rope has lead to her obsessively collecting all sorts of bondage photographs, especially those by her idol, Suguira Norio; his photography features Japan’s most respected artists perfectly capturing her vision of kinbaku. Videos of Masato’s tutorials, Yukimura’s sessions and Osada Steve’s stage shows have been a major influence. Of course, her experience as a model has been extremely useful in building an appreciation of exactly how rope should feel and many hours of practice are shaping this into practical application with the help of Esinem.
She has performed internationally, both as a rigger and model, at events which have so far included:
• Torture Garden (London)
• London Festival of the Art of Japanese Bondage (London)
• Fetterati (Madrid)
• Boundcon (Munich)
• Kinky Salon (London)
• Club Rub (London)
• Pedestal (London)
• Rope Fest (St. Petersburg)
Of course, being one of the organisers of BOUND, the UK’s first regular shibari show night, involves a lot of practice on both sides of the rope.
I met Miumi last year through Mack and Reina who have been our international or, at least, Japanese liaison co-ordinators or something like that anyway, not to mention very good friends. When I heard she was a student of Kinoko’s and had performed in Japan, I was instantly curious to see her tie. After many months of battling with stereo-typical Japanese modesty, we persuaded her to perform at BOUND. What at treat it was! She did a charming and immaculate show with Gorgone. Her rope handling and movement have a wonderful delicacy that I can still visualise clearly.
Bob RopeMarks is an internationally acclaimed Japanese bondage professional from Amsterdam who will be performing with Dutch Dame, a fetish model based in the Netherlands who specializes in rubber and bondage.
Professionally, RopeMarks started in 1999 so is one of the western pioneers of shibari. He has appeared extensively in the media, performed globally from Europe to the USA to Russia and all the way to the country of origin, Japan, teaches and has a very active membership site with lots of photos and videos.
Jack found his way into rope via martial arts and as a professional flyman in theatre. His journey and progress have been fuelled by his own desire to learn and better himself and this took a huge step forward when he found his partner Zahara. All of his desire, love and passion found a focal point when he first tied her and the spark that ignited in that instant is still what drives him as he ties her today.
Jack has been tying for around 3 & 1/2 years now and his style is all his own. Grounded strongly in his physical understanding of the human body through martial arts and medical study, he has developed a unique style of hojojutsu based single rope control in which his main focus is to extract emotion from Zahara. Playing with this emotion through quick explosive takedowns or soft and sensual caresses feeds their mutual passion further. In Jack’s own words, “Zahara complements everything I do with rope, she puts her trust in my control, and that’s the finest example of love I could possibly desire.”
Zahara has a background in ballet and a great core strength that makes for very dynamic performances. She first experienced rope when Jack tied her 2 years ago and the creativity flowed from there. Zahara likes to challenge herself with intricate and demanding ties and her sheer ecstasy when performing is evident. Putting all of her trust in Jack, she can fully explore their passion through rope and dances her way through each rope session.
Rope is an extension of Jack’s hands. It is a new and deeper form of communication, in a way where words will simply never do. It is love, passion, sensuality, eroticism, raw energy. It is primal, elevated, frustration, tears, pure feeling. It is a way of joining that nothing else has ever matched up to. Rope is a mutual exchange, full of laughter and love.
Stefano Laforgia is an Italian Rigger and BDSM educator. He started his journey in BDSM at early age, but lived it mainly in private until he moved in Rome in 2000.
In 2005 he decided to live his lifestyle in a public way when he founded Alcova, the first fetish/BDSM shop in Rome. Since then he has worked on various projects, both in Italy and around the world.
His approach to shibari has shifted with time especially since 2008, when he started visiting Japan and met some of the best Japanese kinbakushi, making acquaintances with some of them, including Kinoko Hajime, that Stefano invited to come and perform in Europe for the first time.
Stefano was so fascinated by Japanese bondage that started to share his views about it with others Italian and international riggers during various events in the following years, contributing to the genesis of a new trend that emphasizes the connection and interaction between the rigger and the bottom. This process clearly shows in his live shows and through his pictures, where the rigger become more and more an active part of the scene, as it’s the best way for Stefano to show the connection, the erotic tension and the power exchange between him and the bottom.
In 2011 he founded the first and only School of Japanese Bondage in Italy, entitled to “Itoh Seiyu” . After all this time he is still having a great time teaching, performing and sharing knowledge around the globe and, most of all, tying and having fun with his play partners.
